They are bad for your computer through extensive usage and downloading files that contain viruses.

There is one safe way that I know of that you can get music and save it to your computer, which is using Windows Media Player. Go to the tab that says "Guide," and type into the search bar the song that you want to find. Although Media Player doesn't have a lot of non-mainstream music, it is free and safe. A big problem with it, however, is that although you don't have to download the music every time you want to listen to it, it's not really downloading at all -- just showing in your playlists music that you're listening to from the Internet. In essence, it cannot be transferred to CDs or an iPod, and if it is removed from its Internet source, you can no longer listen to it.

Hope this helped!

There are both advantages and disadvantges between these two softwares. They are prone to expose your PC or Laptop to viruses and trojans. And those will make your computer performance diminished. The only way to download computer safetly is to use softwares such as iTunes. I know that it cost 99 cents per each song. But hey, in the run is worthwhile because is cheaper than calling a computer technician to reboot your computer.

If you want viruses and trojans and such, then they are excellent, but if you want a computer that's useable, then they're bad as heck.
