I want to start doing some extremely detailed sculptures at home.
What is the best kind of clay I can use to get the desired result. I also need something that can dry on it's own without a kiln.

You may want to look at other choices of material - especially the wax used for making lost wax castings which is available from both jewelry supply and foundry supply places. This wax is much tougher than candle wax and is available in various forms that are variously hard or soft, brittle or flexible, etc. The advantage of wax is that you can "weld" on additions like adding clay to a model and then carve away in fine detail.
If you are thinking of making sculptures of some material that is easy to work and then gets really hard without firing, you are not going to find it. The best compromise is making a wax or clay original, making a mold of it in latex mold compound then pouring a casting in the mold using plaster, hard wax, or casting resin.

First you roll out slabs of clay. then you certainly placed them mutually to style a hollow sculpture. Use a lot of newspapers and rags, whether you employ an armature. To make slip you combine up clay and water and make it into thick dirt. The slip you employ as glue. even although you pinch the slabs to a minimum of one yet another, you besides mght choose for to apply slip ok? for the duration of the entire technique, or perhaps in case you finally end up completed you have the entire ingredient dry very slowly. The slower it dries the better it's going to be. So shop it wrapped and in a moist room while no longer engaged on it. when you're completed you have somebody hearth it in a kiln. which would be a reliable mildew for the cement sculpture. however the sculpture you made you additionally can shop, by using fact whether that's fired appropriate it somewhat is going to final a protracted time. and you would be able to even like it greater useful, by using fact clay (appropriate fired) seems greater useful than cement.

Model Magic is like clay...and you can do some awesome stuff with it but it's not good for bigger sculptures. You can get it at walmart and try it.

I don't know of ANY clay that you don't have to heat up some how to make it harden and get stronger.
