depends where they are, if they are in the house could be difficult. you can get sticky pads for catching mice. if you run a sugar liquid trail for the ants they will start to use it , and give the message back to the others in the nest, so when the ants get used to the trail putthe sticky traps on the trail line and just weight for it to fill upcould take some time depends on how many ants there are., if they are out side boiling water . or if you have a nest hump a jet cleaner wiil ssort they out, i have use a solvant but not recommended as it is a polutant

You could keep an ant-eater as a pet. If you mix borax with honey they will take it back to the nest and it will make all the males infertile. The whole nest will die out in a few days. If the red ants are meat eaters then you need to use chicken fat or similar instead of honey. Best wishes.

Don't know if this works on red ants but I have gotten rid of black ants by putting a half empty can of coca cola on the corner with some insect poison in it. Seemed to work don't know why they didn't keep coming back

*cook some water and sugar let cool add boric acid (roach killer) and let the ants carry it back to the nest
*plain grits work if you time it right - put out a day or two befor a good rain(or make your own) the queen eats- drinks and pops.
*cat food , grape jelly and boric acid- the ants take it to the queen because they are not good enough to eat such a delicacy. the queen eats and dies.
*diatomaceous earth spread on the mound (must be dry weather) takes a couple of days- they track it in it dries them out and they die.
all these work, but not like commercial posions- it may take up to a week---
*if you just want to offend them they hate cucumber peels- coffee grounds-and hot water

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water.
I found the information at http://www.pests.in useful

Buy some Nippon which is like a sticky liquid which you put down on a board or a tile. the ants love it and they collect it and take it back to the nest as food but is it poison to them
