Nope, Rivers is a winner, plain and simple. He may be young, but he's more mobile, has a better arm, and a quicker release than Brees, and unlike Brees he doesn't throw interceptions in the fourth quarter that lose games. Bottom line, the Chargers would not be as good with Brees, Rivers is a better fit.

And by the way, Mi-opotic is not a word. I think you're trying to say Myopic which means "near-sighted", which would also be wrong. The Chargers went with Rivers because he will be better than Brees in the future, not now. If anything that makes them Hyperopic (far-sighted).

Pure sports economics. Rivers was signed as a rookie and is under a lower contract than Brees would have been able to demand as a veteran quarterback. If the Chargers want to keep stars like Gates, Merriweather and Tomlinson happy, something had to give. The salary cap means there are no Steinbrenners in football.

New Orleanian and die hard Saint fan here! We loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Drew Brees. He's just an all around good guy. He's came to the city (along with old and new players) and helped out with the relief efforts. He's a great asset to the entire franchise and has helped the city to have something to be happy about despite Hurricane Katrina's devastation. We are very lucky to have him.

well, dont get me wrong, drew brees is a great qb, but philip rivers is younger. while brees could open up the chargers playbook more right now, rivers has a lot more potential, simply because he's younger. there's no doubt rivers has flaws. can you name a young qb who doesnt?? but i think the chargers will be plenty happy when rivers leads them to the super bowl!!(which is a BIG possibility, you know, because they have some guy with the name "LT"!) drew brees could also go to the super bowl, but rivers has a lot more years to get there. so he really doesnt have to win it this year, just as long as he wins one. no the trade wont come back to bite them in the ***!

No the Chargers are a better team without Brees, Now they have a QB that can take them all the way, with LT running.

Do the Chargers really need Brees with the way Ladainian Tomlinson is playing?

I would be more ticked at Archie Manning because he dictated Eli going to the Giants (Their loss too). I would of drafted him and promptly BENCHED him.
