None of the above are entirely true. I am a classics major and have studied the book twice.

Upon returning to Ithaca, Odyseeus plots with his son to get rid of the suitors and get Penelope back. After he wins, he becomes King of Ithaca and is set to live his life. But before he can completely settle down, he has to do the penance to Neptune. He was told to go inland where no one knew of Neptune and build a temple. After doing that he goes back to Ithaca. For more details look at the Spark Notes, they will give you a good and accurate summary.

he experienced a lotta 20 year-lags: sea-lag (jetlag!), love-lag (read btwn lines, his wife mus'hve wndred wh' the hell was he doin' at sea for ten yrs! was he really at sea!) . . . .just kiddin.
Seriously, I think some modern Homer should write another epic to answer that question. . . . from a modern point of view.

Of course it says in the book if only you could read!!!

He tuned in to the sports news, killed a few suitors to his wife (by means of a very strong bow, which could only be handled by himself), and poured himself a glass of whiskey.

You are welcome!
