Hmm, I'm sorry that I really can't think of somewhere in Singapore where you can spend a great New Year countdown with no crowd.
Well, I wld really suggest you to bring your kids to see our great fireworks display outside the areas at The Esplanade, Marina Square, Fullerton Hotel or Boat Quay. There shall be about 10 - 15 mins of magnificent fireworks. I'm sure your kids will love it and be delighted of the atmosphere of the crowd. Just be prepared that the crowd will be alot and road blocks will be stationed everywhere. When the fireworks display are over, you can also bring your family to dine at the nearby restaurants, the night sceneries are great and you can choose to take a few snaps at our few places to visit like the Merlion, just right standing in front of Fullerton Hotel. However, not to worry so much, MRTs are just near the vicinity. So the accessibility is really easy and you can go back to your hotel quite fast.
If you miss this fireworks this time, you can still try to visit Singapore before our Chinese New Year, on the eve, there'll also be great fireworks too. Apart from that, on the National Day itself, there is also fireworks but the fireworks display will take place in the National Stadium, in the Kallang area.
Another hotspot will be at Sentosa - The Siloso Beach. There'll be a great New Year countdown foam party, great music with wine & dine. But it is not so suitable for kids!
By the way, if you happen to board SIA or SilkAir airplanes, you'll be entitled to enjoy discounts at Sentosa. Present your SIA or SilkAir Boarding Pass for the discounts.

Orchard Road is the best, to view the magnificent lightings.. It's crowded but definitely a memorable one for your kids.. Can just sit inside a cafe (near the roads) and watch how others countdown too.. enjoy ur trip!! =)

Just bring them to marvel at the colorful lights lined along Orchard Road. It's a fantasy display for the eyes!
The Zoological Gardens or Sentosa is not bad either.

well i think there is the siloso beach party but its not advisable since you have kids with you. You could probably visit educational places like the zoos and such. Night safari would be a good idea =D
