I don't see where this question has anything to do with democrat or republican like my fellow question answerer, but here's my response....

Different variables weigh in when it comes to sentencing. The Justice system uses a point system. The points are called O V and PRV. They tally up the amount of points of the current crime, nature of it. They also factor in points from previous criminal history, and the nature of those crimes as well. There is also sentencing guidelines that the court follows, There is actually no way to give someone a definite sentence, simply because we cannot determine what way the Court will sway. Your question doesn't describe the type of rape, if it was violent, if there was a weapon involved... etc.... I'm sorry that you probably didn't find much help within my answer, but I do know these are the steps that are taken to determine a possible sentence, but the final decision of course is up to the Court, (Judge/Jury). After, the person is released from prison, they will have to register as a sex offender, even they took a plea agreement under the impression that they wouldn't have to... Megan's Law is a law that can change at anytime.

Democrats do Not want jail sentences for rape.
Democrats want rapists to take "Sensitivity Classes".
"Democrats Care".

Well, it worked for Bill Clinton. Remember when Bill was accused of rape, groping, and harassment?
He went to a Preacher, down South, and the Preacher gave him "Sensitivity Classes".
IT MUST HAVE WORKED.
Bill has not been accused of Sex Crimes for awhile.
BILL HAS BEEN HEALED. AND IT WAS FROM SENSITIVITY CLASSES.
Cool!!!
