As in why do they expect these woman from Miss USA to be the 'perfect role model' when we have idiots like Brittany Spears boping through the papers and being a lousy role model for anyone?!

Doesn't make sense, does it? Miss USA has to be perfect, yet the president doesn't. What is wrong with this picture?

It's not so much that she has to be perfect, but right or wrong she is representing certain moral standards and is held up to a higher standard because she is Miss USA. It may not be fair but she is a role model, and unlike pro athletes and celebrities, it's in her contract to act in ways that will not cause harm to the reputation of the pageant. In other words she goes into it with her eyes wide open

They're all good looking. So obviously looks isn't only thing they look for in the contest. If it's just on looks you go to one of those Hooters bikini contest or something else. Miss USA have long tradition of winners serving community and serving as good ambassador or whatever.

It's not so much that she is expected to be "perfect." She's just a convenient target for envious little creatures that believe tearing down someone who is perceived as more attractive and/or successful than they and who is enjoying their life somehow elevates them and excuses the drab, little existence they have chosen.
