No its not true that is an excuse of the Currupt Somali government and the Ethiopians. Keep in mind most people on Somalia even the Christians support Islamic Courts. The government is trying to make it a religious issue when in reality its about the Somalis getting sick and tired of curruption. Here Are some facts:
- Somalia is a mostly muslim country.
-Also the Somalian government is extremely corrupt and oppressed its people ..
-Before the Islamic courts took over Somalia was full of checkpoints;and inorder to go passed the government warlords you had to pay them.
-If you wanted to open a business you would have to pay for protection and if you didn't God help you.
-When the Islamic courts took over the Somali people stood together and stopped all checkpoints and helped and stop corruption and crime went dramatically lower.
-They (the islamic courts )told the gov. that they dont want to take over the government they are just sick of the crimes and corruption .
-The Somali government's warlords tried to go about their business of terror but with the help of the Somali people they were all brought to justice.
-They(the islamic courts) have never punished anyone for their religion.
-The Somali gov..wants to dismantle the Islamic courts inorder to go back to oppressing its ppl..so they asked Ethiopia for help since most Somalis dont support their gov. and told them that this is a religious war even affiliating it with AlQaeda which the courts deny..
P.S.If Islamic courts were oppressive then WHY do ALL SOMALIS SUPPORT THEM and not their government..
-Ethiopia has no right to occupy and attack and kill innocent ppl..Its wronge And there is NOO excuse....

IF you want accurate info speak to a native Somali he would know.
I hope this helps remeber not to believe everything you hear ... Source(s) A Christian Somali friend +her muslim Somali husband

In the strictest sense, yes.

Somalia is the one country whose current condition is most closely "anarchy," although at this point it's essentially in the middle of a civil war. The official government (recognized by the United Nations) is in exile, fighting against the Islamic Courts Union, a group which slowly formed in the absence of power in Somalia to enforce (Islamic) laws. The ICU expanded its power and eventually became a paramilitary faction, directly opposing the transitional democratic government.

Ethiopia supports the democratic government in Somalia, and has sent troops into Somalia to oppose the ICU. So, technically, Somalia and Ethiopia are allied, as the "official" government of Somalia is the transitional one. It should be noted, however, that the ICU controls most of Somalia.

Famine in Somalia had already ended by time we got food in and we paid warlords, tow of which now control Somalias government and asked Ethopia to come into country. move that the parliment of Somalia did not approve oif but instead had approved the All African military UN Force to enter without Ethiopia, a move the US would not allow in UN.
As for Ehtiopia being such a benign mnation ? During food crissi they charged the humanitarian agencys a fee of 12 to 42 doolars a metric tonne to unload when the going price in area had been under $4.00 US.
Over 70% of Somalia was under contract to just 4 oil firms who still have offices in country before blackhawk down.
