Does anyone play with secondlife.com?? What do you think about it?

I'm seriously thinking about registering, to see for myself what it is about. Some people told me about the moneymaking, but there are other possibilities like networking and education.
I'd like to check out the latter possibilities first before spending virtual or real money!
I had my doubts before, but yesterday I read an article by a professor working for a renounced Dutch college.
His article was very positive, he even put his secondlife.com nick on line. But I'm wondering, what is a virtual Harvard degree worth irl?
