Assuming that your Linksys router includes a wireless broadcast (not all do - if it did not say "wireless router" when you brought it, it does not)...
Move the laptop near the router and open the Control Panel. Click on the Wireless Setup Wizard icon. It should detect the signal from your router and attach you to it. After the initial setup, the laptop will continue to automatically connect to the network anytime it is within range (about 100-150 feet).

First you have to make sure you have a wifi laptop and inside the laptop there will be a wireless set up wizard.

Before you mess with the laptop make sure you set up your wireless router as you need to have the wireless router set up BEFORE you mess with your laptop.

Check out the links provided to Toshiba and Linksys below and if you have any issues please contact me for assistance.

You have to make sure that the wireless card is installed. Then make sure that the network is unprotected and set up the laptop for a wireless network. If it has Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), then there should be a wizard for wireless network setup. It's in the Accessories section in the All Programs menu.

You should be able to go into start, control panel, your wireless network setup wizard and just follow the directions. If your router is set up with WAP you will need the code to connect..

if its running XP, try here:

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/wlan_client_connect.mspx?mfr=true

usually to find your name (SSID), just move right next to the router and pick the one with the best signal strength from the list.
