Computer Network Problem?

I am on a home network that has 4 other computers on it other than my own. From time to time i will get an IP Address Conflict error message....says basically that someone on the network is using my ip. Is there anyway i can change my ip address or any other solutions would be helpful..thank you

Are you using a boardband router with DHCP on it? If yes, please reset you router once and it should solve your problem.

If you are using static IP (means you have set a known IP address on each computer), please ensure that all IP is different from each other. E.g. 192.168.2.10, and 192.168.2.11, and 192.168.2.12, and so on.

Normally advice to keep it on DHCP (Short for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, a protocol for assigning dynamic IP addresses to devices on a network. With dynamic addressing, a device can have a different IP address every time it connects to the network. In some systems, the device's IP address can even change while it is still connected.)

You can either manually configure your IP addresses so they are different or setup DHCP on your router to dynamically assign and manage IPs. I would also make sure that you have proper security measures if you are using wireless as the error may indicate that someone is stealing your connection. Enable encryption, MAC addres filtering and limited IP scope.

Assign static IP's don't use DHCP... there should be a place in the router setup to do this..

START - RUN - CMD or COMMAND which will bring up a dos box.

Then type "ipconfig / release" to release your IP, then "ipconfig / renew" to pick up a new IP.

you must check if the both computers have same network Workgroup name

have you tried refreshing your modem? just unplug it leave it off for awhile. As far as your router, do the same....if it is wireless. Make sure you have it secure so that only your family can use it.
