The reason the GPA is so low is I did offal (3.0) in my freshman year but have since improved VASTLY.
Also, I recently took the European History AP Test and got a 5.

NYU is a very competitive school but you have a lot of activities that might increase your chances. I am a little concerned about that 3.4, though. That is definitely borderline or below. It depends how you calculate it. You should recalc your GPA with only the real courses and throw out the phys ed, health, and bogus courses. Just count English, math, science, language and history.
I did admissions interviews for two of my alma maters for many years. The one thing they told us was, no admission for kids with high SATs and low averages. That means a kid who is lazy in doing his school work, and that is the one thing they dont want. You might have to convince them in your essay that you are NOT one of those.

Your SAT scores are high enough. Most people who are accepted there have higher GPAs -- but haveing a 3.4 is not out of the question. Since you are taking AP classes, doing well in them will bring up your GPA considerably, and will increase your chances.
You may not get into NYU -- but you will certainly get into a good university.

For the colleges which you utilized to, that D could make an excellent difference. those are all faculties with enormously extreme admissions criteria, making the admissions technique enormously aggressive. they do no longer even choose for a reason to no longer admit a student, so in case you provide them one, nicely, you would be SOL. The turn area is which you look o.k. rounded and have a lot of issues going for you. you won't get into one in each of your dream faculties yet you gets ordinary right into a reliable college regardless.
