he said this is like the second part of his career and he wanted a brand new start with a brand new number.
he wore 24 at high school, and it was his first choice when he was a rookie, but it wasn't available back then.
he also said that it's his committement, the number of hours in a day, the number of minutes in a half, and the seconds on a shot clock.
it's his decision.

His HS number and he said it was time for a change. Honestly I just thought he wanted a new jersey number because everybody has his number 8 jersey and he wants to beat LBJ and D-Wade in jersey sales

he wants to "hide the scars to fade away the shakeup"---its obvious that he wants to prove to people that 24= 1 better than Jordan (23).
