every time i install "the sims 2" it says something like "ERROR: shutdown failed. there are no more files" and makes you click ok. it does this before, and just continues installing it. it does it again after. then i have to insert the disk before i log into my XP account to play it, otherwise it makes me install it again.

i just got "the sims 2: pets" and i really want to install that. i tried once, and it said "sims 2 not properly installed", and made me start all over. my computer won't let me uninstall "the sims 2" either, even with the "add/edit program" thing in the control panel.

i have already tried creating my own directory for the game, installed it there and such. same thing happens.

everytime it makes me reinstall, all my old files and characters and such are still there, so it's not deleting everything i guess.

please help?? it would make me and my sister's day! =)

Firstly you must delete the Sims 2. You don't need the control panel to do that. Go to C:\Program Files\EA GAMES
Delete everything in that file and reinstall everything.

I had the same problem. It has to do with the registry.
For some reason you don't have access to the key LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA Games. Log in using another administrator account and check whether you have access now. If so, add full access for the other account.
Now the install should work.
If there are further problems after install (such as wrong language) check the sub-key "The Sims 2 Pets" also gives access.

Good luck!

I'm thinking you might have a bad disc. You can contact EA and they will send you a new disc. The contact info is on the back of the booklet.
