I am not going to say that it is hard. It sure isn't as simple as people are making out to be. Assuming you are referring to a Class A. There is no since in wasting your time getting a Class B cause there are no Class B jobs that pay worth a dam. All that crap about going to the Bus company and getting training then getting it converted is a bunch of bull crapola. So don't listen to that non-scense.
Basicaly your test is on things you will either never do or won't want to do in a tractor trailer. Things like parrallel parking. I have yet to had to parrallel park my truck. If I needed to parrallel park it...I would want to park some place else. All it will take is for some dumb **** to come along and block you in. Then you are screwed for who knows how long. But for your test you need to do it sight and blind side. And also the straight back...You will do this quite frequently..but I find it a lot easier to do when you have the peddle mashed to the floor. It requires small fast corrections instead of slow long corrections that will ultimately result in you probably needing to use a pull up. Can't put the hammer down on test day...It is easier though. The pre-trip is basically he hardest part. It is a lot of memorizing and can seem quite overwhelming. If I recall my test was timed so I had to knockout that pre-trip in 4 minutes or something.
I will sum it up with...It is a lot harder to keep the CDL than it is to get it. No school is going to teach you how to drive in real world scenarios. The only way you are going to learn is when you start with a company on your own. Out of the 12 or 13 kids I went to school with only about 5 including myself are still driving.

Easy...you can get a B class free by going to a school bus contractor, they train you and pay you for it. Drive for 90 days then move on (non tractor trailer). "A" class (semi or tractor trailer) is an additional test that you can get for half the price.

i wont say its hard or easy, its a pretty tough thing, i learned to drive a truck in the army and my liscense just transferred over because of that, but you do have to learn a lot of book work, i dont know about civilian wise, but in the army you had to back a 45 foot trailer in a straight line and around curves and such, just because a lot of truck drivers look dumb doesnt mean they are
