1) First, your metabolism slows down (see other posts).
2) Secondly, even for those who are much lighter than before and starve themselves at a rate more than slow metabolism can put back on weight for them, they end up losing muscle (which needs food to be built and maintained) and often end up losing more muscle than fat. Which means if you don't eat you could easily end up being about the same size (only losing a little), but losing a good deal of weight MOSTLY because the weight lost was muscle. Which means you end up weaker not skinnier, for the most part.
Bottom line: put forth decent effort to keep a good diet and exercise; you can't cheat you need both of these to lose weight and keep it off (and, in case you wondered, Metabolizers/weight-loss pills do not work in the long-run either).

depend on metabolism when you first start to not eat your body goes into a sort of survival mode where your metabolism slows way down to conserve any calories you may take in turning these to fat. if you go without eating long enough then the body begins to use up these reserves causing you to lose wieght howver if you keep that up your body will also start to lose muscle mass which is bad. when you do start to eat again or eat more then the body will turn that to fat because your metabolism is so slow. anorexics limit their calories greatly some not taking in more than 500 a day they have to keep this up for quite a while before they begin to lose weight.

when you don't give your body calories to burn by eating, it triggers a survival process that slows down the metabolism and causes your body to stop burning fat. eventually, the body loses the weight anyway -- especially if you are exercising like a maniac.
also, when you skip meals it causes more hunger and you over eat at the next meal unless you have a lot of will power and control.

Because when you don't eat your metabolism slows down, so that when you do eat something it's takes much longer to burn it off and you don't lose the weight you put in your body as fast
