i think it has a religious connotation. the tree is left up until Jan. 6 which is little xmas when the wise men showed up. It has been a tradition in my house forever but the trees r less fresh every year and i can guarantee u this one will b down b4 the end of the week because it is loosing needles all over the place.

the ephiphany is Jan. 6, which is the end of the '12 days of Christmas' so any time after that is good. I've seen many leave, if not the tree, many of the decorations up until the end of Jan. or even til Mid. Feb. This especially works if they are more 'seasonal' decorations than Christmas specific.

Some people wait for Epiphany, January 6th. Traditions says this is the date the 3 Kings found Jesus.

i've always heard that if you take your trea down before jan.2'nd then you'll have bad luck all year. as far as traditions go that really depends on you, you have to make your own traditions with your family.

We take ours down the day before, we consider the year over and a new one to start, thus taking down the memories of past and making all new ones....
