www.greenigsociety.org has some great info on iguanas. I have been raising them for 8 years; i currently have 3 of them. They make wonderful pets, however they are a bit spendy. The iguana itself is about 20-30 bucks, a uvb light is 40 the fixture for it is 20, the heat bulb is 9 bucks, the fixture about 10. The cage can range from 50-150 depending on how large you go. That is about 250 dollars just to start. The $40 UVB bulb should be replaced every 6 months; the cage has to be upgraded over and over throughout their lives to accomidate their large size.
They can be quite agressive if not handled properly.
I won't tell you not to get one, because they are wonderful; but if you are financially stable; and have quite a bit of time to tame this iguana, then go for it. Taming takes a lot of time; and the first year or two are crucial. Read up on that green ig society website; it will tell you absolutly everything you need to know. There is also a discussion board on there; I talk a lot on it. Those people have many years experience and will be able to better answer your questions then some of the people here.
good luck

Iguanas take a lot of time and money to care for properly. I have had several of them, the biggest one was 4 1/2 ft long. However they do make great companions if they have the right temperament. Some can be mean and aggressive. Overall if you have the time and patience get one they are lovely creatures. They eat fresh fruit and vegetables and also there is iguana food that you can give them. Just make sure that you have the right set up for them to be healthy.

Iguanas are very high maintenance.
They require certain temperature, humidity, lights, diets, supplements, time and attention. And as they grow, and they could grow to be six feet long, they DO require a lot of space. So, think if you will be able to invest financially (iguanas themselves are not expensive, a baby iguana probably costs 30 bucks, but the habitat, equipment, etc!...) and emotionally (they are not the most affectionate creatures but do need to be handled quite a lot on a daily basis).

My husband and I had an iguana for about 6 years before we gave it to my brother. We had 3 cats at the same time and they all got along just fine. At 6 years old he was about 4 feet long. He loved watermelon!

As a baby the cost from 20-35 dollars. They eat vegetables and green leafy greens and fruits they need uvb lighting and heat bulbs and cage,Which can cost some money. They are good pets if you only have one they do have a personality and very inquisative. They do bite and could leave a nasty bite. You need to spend lots of time with them they require alot. Not good for kids I would suggest a teenager or adult who wants to spend time and not ignore the beautiful creature. Goodluck!

hi how are you? My iguana cost $19.99 i wanted a iguana so bad and now i lost interest in it so im having to give it away. you have to spend lotts time with it buy speacial foods and good thing is u only change their cages 1 every 5 months if you dont hold it much they will bite you and if they do bite your finger then dont pull your finger out cause their teeth are razors and they pointed backward and when u pet them pet them in one direction whiches is strocking his back going downward only if u pet him going up u will lift his scale and give him a infection and then he will defintitly die on you! If you dont spend time with it will bite you and plus whip you with its tail and it burns and they can also get up to 6 feet long and they live for years and years and make sure they are always warm u have to buy it a heat lamp to keep it warm and snuggly good luck always mimi

Iguanas are wonderful pets... I own seven of them.... Make sure the cage is closed at all times or else they may fly away. Or clip their wings... Watch the movie "night of the Iguana with R. Burton... I learned a lot from that movie on how to care for iguanas. Any more questions please let me know...I know alot about iguanas.

theres alot to think about ! Some get to be quite large in size ....Space...home made place would be great for it ..use plexyglass 3 quarder inch alaround ...mossand plant durt without the furerlizer in it ...a med size pool of water thats going to be checked and cleaned everyother day ...
dont feed live food ...use veg. and fruit ..they love the color red so watermelon is great for one ...celintro ...peas, even your garden flowers can be used [only if they havent been treated with some stuff to kill flys ants ..so on }
those yellow plants in the yard that people hate if not treated ...they love the bloom on it ...lambquarters they love that to ....mix a bunch of fruit together they'll love it ..
mine where 5 half foot long counting tail....
long claws too when small handle a lot but dont get rough with ...let them on your shower they love to ride there ...put crushed eggshell in food two times a week .... if it female take to vet xray check for eggs ...the durt i told you about has to be deep for them so theyll lay their eggs in it ....use full sep.uv light for them keep it wearmer in the room where you keep it
