Also, can having twins affect how early a mother would feel the baby move?

This depends on a few things.. but on average, women can feel the baby moving at about 17 weeks. I felt my son move around 16 weeks as well. As a first time mother, it was a bit hard to be sure because the movements felt like gas bubbles. But as it becomes more regular, there is no mistaking it.

For 2nd pregnancies, moms may feel the baby earlier because now they know what to look for.

As for twins (I am now 11 weeks pregnant with twins), I read that the movements can be felt as early as 14 weeks. I myself hasn't felt anything as of yet. Because the womb gets crowded earlier, the movements are easier to detect earlier in the pregnancy.

BUT - the movements I've described above cannot be felt by another person by laying their hand on the mother's tummy. The movements are detectable only by the mother at this point - like I said, they feel more like gas bubbles. It will be past 20 weeks before someone other than the mom can feel the movements.

Of my four children the earliest we ever felt the baby move was probably 20 weeks.
Twins will affect the mother feeling the baby because there are two babies taking up more room inside mom. She will also start to show earlier.
Oh, and don't feel right over the belly, feel down lower, below the belly button. It takes a while before the baby is up higher.

That depends on so many things....how active the baby is by nature, for example, the body type and size of the mom-to-be, and the position of the baby...in some positions it's too hard to feel from the outside. I am fairly thin and didn't gain a ton of weight and my hubby could feel her by about 25 weeks, although I was feeling her far earlier than that. Quite often you will find that the mom will put your hand in the right position, only to have the baby play "keep away" and move out of that position and stop kicking....we played that game for awhile!
Toward the end of the pregnancy you may be able to SEE and feel the big movments, since the baby is running out of space. We have both seen a foot kick and what we are guessing is an elbow. It's a lot of fun to try "name that body part" with the baby!

You can usually feel a very light thump from the outside as early as week 24.
And no, having twins doesn't affect how early you can feel them...but it does affect how many different places you can feel them at one time, and later on, when they are bigger, instead of movement being in a particular place most of the time...movement is all over the place at one time.

I was small with my first daughter and I felt her move at 14 weeks. With my second daughter, I felt her at 15 or 16 weeks. Merry Christmas and happy holidays
