Well I work with several different magazines as a model, and what they do is they take your picture and put it on a computer and they basically can make you fatter, skinnier, taller, bigger breast. Anything so what you see on those magazines are just unrealistic versions of how these (male) editors and computer analyst see how us models should be. And I heard them talking once saying god damn America is filled with fat ugly girls. And another said well at least are models might make those fatties fill bad. So yes i believe you are right. (by the way I quit that magazine!)

Not designed specifically for that reason, but people won't go in a newsagents and be drawn to a magazine with a fat, ugly and spotty model on. Which is totally unfair because teenagers don't look around at the world and when they see the magazine covers, they think that's what they should look like. It's very unrealistic and leads to girls hating the way they look. It's ironic that a magazine designed to attract young women and give them fashion and beauty tips actually makes they hate everything about themselves.
It is human nature to be draw to a thin, beautiful model that has been airbrushed to perfection, meaning no magazine would be willing to feature an average teenager on the front, even though that would probably attract some people.

No, I don't think that they're designed to make teen girls "hate their bodies;" I think that they are designed to convey what teen girls SHOULD look like and try to achieve - that's how certain industries make their money!!! Although I certainly don't agree with this method of "advertising" or attempts at cloning, you also have to realize that those who are influenced by these types of magazines really need to look at themselves - they aren't happy with something in their life.

I don't think that was the original intent but it was the outcome. The sad part is tnhat those images on the cover are so NOT what the models actually look like. They have been retouched over and over again.
What you see on the cover is perfection--no wrinkles, no cellulite, no dimples, no enlarged pores, etc.

Not to hate them, but to QUESTION them. If you can get a girl to question or become confused as to whether or not she is acceptable then she will turn to the first available source of wisdom and seek to remodel herself. Shame on them all! They have the chance to empower girls and (no matter what they claim to the contrary) they only tear them down.

I think so- they put a gorgeous (and airbrushed) model on the cover, and then say "101 tips for a perfect body!" or something so you buy the magazine in hopes of improving your own body.

I think so because they never show people who are unfamous or unpretty. I've heard about girls who want to be like girls on mags. They then start to get diseases like anerexia( really skinny and doesn't like to eat food cause the fear of being overweight). I think the media wants to show that you will be liked more if you are skinny. They want to paint a picture of how all girls should look like. Back then people were liked because they were fat. They had round, curved bodies, which was what girls wanted to look like. I don't know what has happened to the world, but i don't want to have anerexia.
Happy holidays!! xoxoxox

They are designed to sell magzines. But the models they pick are extraordinary, which makes normal girls feel fat and ugly. Most girls do not realize how beautiful they are.
