I know you can with University, but can you transfer community college credits? I am starting college to become a Paralegal in August, but my mother, who I plan to live with, may get a transfer to Florida next December. Would it be possible to start college here in August here and transfer my credits to another one there? Or would I have to start all over again, which I really really REALLY would not want to do.

I know this is probably a stupid question but I dont know much about transfers. Thanks

It all depends on the school to which you'll be transferring. In general, credit classes taken at a community college are transferrable, as many 2 year graduates continue on to 4 year schools to earn their Bachelors.

Where I teach, there are a few classes where the catalog does mention that these credits are either not transferrable or offer limited transferability.

Now if you attend a technical college, which focuses more on "trades," then those credits tend to be far more limiting in terms of transferability. Why? Because your training is so highly focused in specific areas that might not be offered at the university level.

But the best thing to do is to contact the Florida school to which you'll be transferring, and ask them if they'll accept those credits.

The community college in my neighborhood offers both technical courses and college transfer courses. The technical courses do not transfer to four year colleges/juniversities. At my local community college, the courses in the paralegal program were technical courses and did not transfer to a 4 year school. Some students in the paralegal program didn't find this out until after they had completed a year's worth of classes and wanted to transfer. As previous answerers have said, call the college or university you want to transfer to and ask. You are not asking a stupid question. I have seen people waste a year of school because they didn't ask.

It depends on the program and where you want to transfer the college credits. If the college is a technical one and the courses are technical credits, they may transfer to another college as electives only, so you may end up repeating courses you have had already. If anything call the college or university system in the state where you plan on transferring, many states have reprocity agreements with other states,t hat allow for college transfers.

You can transfer over your community college credits, you're just going to have to double check with the university your going over to.

Call the school. Chances are, yes, if you are attending a regionally accredited school. But ask your present school.

Be a lawyer too. God bless you..
