The fan in a Grand Cherokee is bolted to the water pump.. my bet is the water pump is starting to make noise. You didnt mention mileage but I can only guess over 100k. Replace it before it goes or you can cause serious engine damage, and the Cherokee water pump isnt an easy one to do either.. good luck!

check the belt, and if that doesnt work, have the waterpump replaced, if your not at least familiar with the working order of your cherokee, then take it to a mechanic, the water pump is a pain in the neck to replace on that model

take off the fan belt just for a test if it goes away realace the belt the belt is probably glazed
