its going to be either the box worn out or a worn out rod end somewhere, you will need to have someone turn the wheel back and forth while you look underneath for the cause,

the manual steering boxes are the same from 63 on up through 1987 but they are the most common before 1973

a rebuilt one is a little over 100, and theres ebay, and local auto parts stores have rebuild kits available

good luck

open the hood and look where the steering shaft goes into the top of the steering box. twist the steering shaft with your hand and watch the pitman arm at the bottom, if you have more than 30 degrees of steering shaft movement before pitman arm movement the steering box needs replace. then jack up a front wheel and move it side to side by hand , it shouldn't feel loose. this way you can look at your tierod ends and idler arm for play.

The gear box on the frame has gone out or your tie rod ends are rotted out, but I think the steering box is shot.. replace that and you should be in good shape! :)

it's that your steering box is gone out ! go to a junk yard and pick up one, or have your old one rebuilt
