ok thanks you guys... now how do i make it into an .avi or .mpg format? is there some kind of program i need to download? if so then what?

Well, if you are using a DVD recorder that records the media on a DVD Disc, you can insert the disc into your PC and go into MY COMPUTER. After that, go to your CD Drive (Usually Drive D:). Right Click it and Select EXPLORE. Then the recorded media should be in that folder and it can be copied to any place on the computer.

OKAY. Now that youhave it on your computer what format is it?
WMV? if it is then you may be screwed, tranferring from wmv to mpg is tough without an expensive program, and all the free programs i tried either didn't work or weren't in synch or maybe i even stopped trying to do that and left them as wmv's.

Windows media player 10, just click the RIP tabe and it saves it on your HD.

depends on how u want the media on ur pc ... what file-type ... i would rip the dvd with dvd decrypter then prolly use autogk to convert it to avi ...

do you have windows movie maker? if you do..just import it that way
