Tomboy is a label placed on girls to modify their behaviour and conventualise them when they might have wanted to have an even more balanced life than barbie-dolls and shiny shoes could offer them. They are girls who want to wear dirty jeans, climb trees and play cricket. This should be normal behaviour for all girls, but these instincts are curbed as successfully as boys who get tearful are.

All in all, we should all be tomboys as children - it would be healthier for us as girls, and would help curb all the neurosis fed to us & cultivated by magazines.

Gay women who adopt the butch role feel no compunction to curb their behavour into a sexually aceeptable submissive role. they have no need of the fripperies of modern heterosexual culture. With no need to appease men, they be themselves.

Excuse me missus, but I'm a complete tomboy and most certainly am not a lesbian! I hate the way people always associate tomboys and lesbians so closely. Not only are you insulting straight tomboys like myself, but i'm sure a lot of lesbians are tired of being stereotyped. Even "butch" lesbians can dress femininely too. People are different, and its about time chumps like you realised it.

I was a tomboy, sometimes I still am one. I've never been either a lesbian or butch. I can only speak for myself, but your question is a stereotype and I'm sure doesn't hold true for everyone.
