Absolutely not, everyone almost always gets their belief-system and philosophies from something someone else has thought before.

That's the great thing about philosophy, you can take different ideas from different places and mold it into your own. Sure, it might be similar to other beliefs, but it will in some way be different than the original.

There are always going to be the people who believe what they believe just to believe it. But if you truly care about not becoming a "second-hand person," you will not because your concern will help you from blindly following an idea or philosophy.

no,,, its always good to read, learn, consider new ideas and/or new viewpoints on ideas,,,,, what do you exactly mean by second hand person??? second hand is normally used to refer to used things, as in preowned,,,, is that what you mean? the idea was owned before if someone gathers one from here? i think thats a big stretch,,,, that someone would only gather up ideas and not reflect on them ,especially in this category

Only if you completely lose sight of your ability to leave established paths and cut your own trail, should you conclude it is necessary.

Otherwise having to think of, and evaluate, every possibility totally on your own is both much harder work than necessary, and liable to leave you vulnerable to your own blind spots.
