The offense is treamandous. The same thing with The Mets last year the offense is loaded but the pitching is iffy and how far can bats take you. It almost tooke them to the World Series.
The Cubs pitching needs help and is a very fragile rotation..
The Mets and Cubs are very simialir teams.
The Cubs need Mark Prior to be effective for them to go the distance. Even if is a effective. The pitching still weak They got Zambrano but who else is an all star?

The Cubs made some really good offensive and pitching moves, highlighted by the trade to bring Alfonso Soriano to the Cubs. He will prosper entirely with the team, and the Chicago Cubs will finally once again win a World Series.

They overall made some very good upgrades in key areas
They got a very knowledgeable Lou Piniella as manager.
They signed 40/40 man Alfonso Soriano.
They kept Kerry Wood for cheap and put him in the bull pen
In regards to their pitching staff. Zambrano is solid. Prior says he feel great and look forward to the season. Lilly's numbers aren't that impressive mainly in part due to him pitching in the AL East. Very few pitchers come out of their with great era's. We will have to see with him. Jason Marquis will have to work on that 6.02 era from last year, that's not going to cut it. Hill, Miller, Marshall, and Guzman will be fighting for the 5 spot in the rotation. Possibly Marquis as well if he has a bad Spring training.
As long as Zambrano, Prior, and Lilly pitch well to decent the Cubs will have a fair chance. And the bat must stay healthy.
Allmost forgot. The Cubs need to get off to a good start.

I think overrall they did great and will do great. They are trying to make this next upcoming season the season for Cubs fan and i have to say it might as well be a Cubs Fan Year.
Don't worry about your pitching, Zambrano, Prior, Lilly and the other pitchers will do just fine. As long as the line up gives the Cubs some points, the Defense will do fine.
Don't worry about the Cubs, there stupendous right now.

They upgraded in a lot of areas. You never know with pitching. Some of the young guys in the pen are going to need to have career seasons for the Cubs to really pull this thing off. I think they'll be ok as long as Lilly and Marquis pull their weight in the rotation.

they basically signed Ian Stewart for third base. I see the crew waiting patiently w/o a experience of urgency. they could extremely be on a three 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. plan beforehand they bypass all in. i'm praying they don't signal Fielder. A mega settlement like that ought to hamstring the crew for yrs. i'm not nerve-racking to study the "age/too fat to swing a bat equation". The Cubs are basically 3 gamers away f/ being a international sequence contender ... Willie Mays, Lou Gehrig and Walter Johnson.

Maybe. As usual the Cubs will get off to a good start and then fade away in the summer.

They made some stupid decisions. 21 mill to Jason marquis who had a 6.09 era while starting?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!? 120 million dollars to Soriano who didnt even carry the Nats, so how do you think he'll carry the pathetic cubs. My prediction: No playoffs, AGAIN!
