That's the rumor. It is kind of hard to imagine that either team will bank their season on a 43 year old pitcher. He might have a good season left in him. I think it's more of a salary thing from the Yankees point of view.

Apparently it's Johnson who inquired with the Diamondbacks if they would want him back, and then when they said they would if the deal was right. He then went to the yankees and asked them to look into moving him back closer to Arizona, where he lives, and the Yankees then called the Diamondbacks. so its not a case of why arizona would want johnson, because it isnt the Yankees who initiated this thing.

I don't think it will happen tho, because Yes, the D'backs want him back, they supposedly want a big name to draw a dwindling fan base back, but No, they are not going to pick up the last 16million dollars of his deal i dont think.

If it did happen, i actually think the team that would be hurt the most by it is the Mets, because if the Yankees deal Randy and Do get his 16 mill off books, Barry Zito will be pitching for the Yankees next year and not the Mets.

Also, Randy still throws 95mph. and if the NL has shown us ANYTHING, its that old AL pitchers who still throw hard and have good stuff can THRIVE in the National League...Roger Clemens, and Pedro MArtinez anyone ...lol. It wouldnt shock me if Randy went back to the NL and all of a sudden the light went back on and he was strikin out 10 people per game LOL. Roger Clemens was exactly what Randy is now in his last year, hittable in the American League... but he went to the NL and poof, a 2.30 era... I think Johnson could still eat the National League up.

If it happens its a good thing for the Yankees. It frees up some money but potentially gets the Yankees some more youth from whichever team trades for him. I would expect the Yanks to ask for at least 2 young pitchers in return Does this mean that the Yanks will go after Zito, I don't think so. I can't see them wanting 3 left handed pitchers in the Bronx nor can I see them getting into a bidding war with the Muts and Boras.
But anything can happen.

No, it is worth more to keep Randy Johnson than to trade him right now.

Despite his age, he still is a dominate pitcher, and if healthy, can help the Yankees win there 27th Ring.

Also, D-Backs wouldn't want Randy because this could possibly be his last season as a Major League Player.

I think so. He's unhappy with all the scrutiny that he gets from the NY sports writers. if he gets traded back to Arizona, the Yankees can make room for the second coming of Clemens or free up some money to try and get Zito.

nicely the Yankees must be getting upset considering that they have not gained a international sequence for a at the same time as and in all probability know Randy Johnson has been having some mechanical problems these days so they in all probability parent in the event that they could get yet another respectable hitter or a respectable pitcher they could be in good shape.

It's only a rumor and in all honesty, I would welcome it. However, for it to go through, RJ will have to pass a physical, and who can really say how he's feeling after the back surgery he had in the offseason. I think demographically, RJ would welcome going to what considered home to him. I do know that when he moved to NY he elected to move into the city and not the 'burbs. maybe it's more to do with his family than his own desire to pitch in NY

Plus, he really doesn't get along with Posada and Jorge isn't going anywhere.

The NY crowd is really tough on him too... the game I was at, the booing was just horrible. There are times when he's pitching he looks lost on the mound kinda like A-Rod does behind the plate. Totally dazed and confused.
