The firing of Larry Coker was not justified from a results standpoint. He won a national title and nearly won another. Having a down year or two happens to everyone. Ohio State had an 8-4 season including a loss to Northwestern in between its 4 trips to Glendale for Fiesta Bowls and national championship games. Having said that, Larry Coker should have been fired immediately following the fight between Miami and FIU. That was completely unacceptable and a disgrace to any fan of college football. He is not strong enough to handle the players that big time programs need to recruit in order to be successful. He is a good coach though, and if he catches on somewhere more laid back where he can teach in a less pressurized environment I think that he will do well.

Coker is definitely on the hot seat. I hear the sports writers at the Miami Herald are trashing him big-time and for good reason. You measure a coaches success for a long-term stable program by how the team is performing 4 or 5 years down the road from when the coach started. In this manner, you get a handle on how well he has done in recruiting players. I think Miami has good players but it is now a notch below as compared to when Coker took over the reins. Also, he has not done a good job when it comes to discipline. Miami no longer has the swagger of old and they are not playing a 100% all of the time. Therefore, unless Coker turns the season around in dramatic fashion I look for him to be gone at year's end.

The team is a bunch of THUGS because of his recruiting. He stopped recruiting good character kids in which he won with and got the straight up asholes of the lot. Their season should have been canceled after the fight with FIU and he's lucky he lasted this long and even got in a bowl game. It is time for a change so he had to go.

his NC came with Butch Davis' players, that program has gotten progressivly worse over the last couple years...Coker deserved to get fired.

I believe his firing was just, because he has lost control of their football program. Between the arrests off field, the fights off field, and the sorry season (according to Miami's standards), it all added up to him losing his job.

Personally, I think their entire football program should be forced to take a year off and get their act together, but thats just me...
