Allrighty. Ok, so for Xmas I got an iTunes gift card. Great! Now I can get all that music I wanted! Bu here's the thing. I go to iTunes and click redeem and enter the code, but it says I need an account. Ok, no problem, I'll just type in a screen name and go. But to sign up for an account you have to add all this crap like your credit card number. I don't have a credit card! That's why I asked for the GIFT CARD!!!!!! So I could get MUSIC!! So does anybody know a way I can use the gift card WITHOUT setting up my account, or else get an account without this credit card stuff???

Had the same problem, I was able to set up an account by signing up for BT click and buy and paying that way. Do't know to be honest if that is still an option though

This following is from the Apple iTunes help page -

Question - I want to create an account with my card, but don't want to enter a credit card.

That's easy! Follow these simple steps

Install the latest version of iTunes. You can download iTunes (it's free) from the Download iTunes webpage. If iTunes is already installed on your computer, check your version and update if necessary.

Open iTunes.

In the Source list (on the left side of the iTunes window), click iTunes Store.

In the upper-right corner of the iTunes Store window, verify that the button next to Account says "Sign In." If this button displays an email address instead, click the button and then click Sign Out.

In the iTunes Store window, click the Redeem link in the right column.

In the resulting screen, enter the 16-digit code printed on the back of the card (it starts with an "X"), then click Redeem.

In the resulting screen, create your new iTunes Store account. You will have the option to enter credit card information; if you do not wish to do so, click the None button on the Payment screen.
Once you've successfully redeemed your music card, the credit amount will appear next to the Account details in the upper-right corner.

Each time you purchase music, iTunes will deduct funds from the credit until it's depleted. If a pending purchase exceeds the credit amount, iTunes will ask you to enter a credit card number. You do not need to re-enter your music card number to make multiple purchases

I knocked my head against the wall for quite awhile on this one, until I followed the directions mentioned in the previously posted answer EXACTLY -- then it worked. Here's the deal: if you try to create your iTunes account directly from the initial iTunes screen INSTEAD of through the "Redeem" link, then the credit card information is NOT optional. You must go through the link to redeem a gift card if you don't want to associate a credit card with your iTunes account. I wish Apple would put some kind of hint about this on their website...
