They are so beautiful. I love it when they fly overhead and "crow!" they are not a bad sign. But, if its a black cat, shoot it as quickly as possible.

In most parts of the world the raven is considered a prophet and a bad omen. The Arabs call it Abu Zajir which means "Father of Omens." In Ireland it was once domesticated for use in divination practices and the term "Raven's Knowledge" meant second sight. In many areas of the ancient world, the sight of a raven flying to the right was a good omen, whilst a raven flying to the left was an evil one. Ravens deserting their nests were very bad omens and popular superstition declared that if the ravens ever fled the Tower of London, the monarchy would fall.
Like the crow and the raven, the blackbird is considered a bad omen. However, the sight of two blackbirds sitting together is a symbol of peace and a good omen.
According to shamanic conceptions, the croaking of a raven is not merely a sign of getting news of someone's death, but represents actually the speech of the deceased. In this case, it would be the soul of the dead speaking from the other world.

Black crows were/are supposed to be a symbol for death. It goes back to a bunch of myths during the wars from like the 1700s and back. That if you saw a crow before battle you were going to die/lose. Pure superstition. No, its not the same thing as a black cat. It is a bad sign if you believe in that kind of thing.

Crows mean different things to different cultures. To the ancient Europeans the crow/raven were both sacred and ill omens. Because they are carrion birds, the raven accompanied the Morrigan, they assissted Bran, and Oden, and they were ever present on the field of battle. In the Midieval Ages, the call of a crow/Raven signified death and sorrow.

This is a counting song from the Midieval era...

One crow for sorrow,
Two crows for joy,
Three crows for a girl,
Four for a boy,
Five crows for silver,
Six crows for gold,
Seven crows for a secret never to be told.

Indeed, you sometimes hear people saying that a black crow is bad luck, but I don't find much on this subject.
But I know that some centuries ago, sailors thought that disaster would come over their ship if a black crow sat on the top of the mast.

People used to fear crows, which are a type of Raven because they were known to start fires....of course this was only true where thatched roofs abound. The Raven is one of the smartest birds, they have little bugs in their feathers and they would swoop down through the smoke coming from a fireplace to kill the bugs in their feathers.....well, if there was a fire outside, the would also pick up hot coals....which they coudln't carry for very long so they would occasionally get dropped on the roofs....which would burn. Some may have lit them on fire to smoke out more bugs from their feathers.........quite intersting really. I consider them good luck....except in "The Birds".

Superstition.... or should I say stupidstition......

Don't beleive in them stuff..... it's a load of rubbish.....

Stupidstition is something that ruins you!

You step on a crack, and you broke yuor mothers back! One this that rhymes, another thing why the mother? Another thing is why a crack? because it rhymes with back? But why break?

Walk under a ladder and it will fall on you! Yea, you have a forcefield around you that will puch the ladder off standing? Or you have a stick going upwards, that's invisible and pushed the ladder down? Or your a magnet, and it pulls the ladder on you?

You see black cat, and you get ran over by a car or something? Anyways to cut the chase....

If anyone tells you don't walk under a ladder, while looking at a black cat staring at you, stepping on a crack, falling on a black crow, and then you get up and run, and trip over a cordless phone extension and fall in to poop, and you'll get bad luck for the rest of you life, you broke your mothers back, and now shes dead, and that ladder will fall on you and blah blah blah.....

Say to them..... that's nice...... and ignore them.........

Crow has significant symbolism. In this website, http://wolfs_moon.tripod.com/contentsindex.html
they explain what crow represent.

CROW (Carrier of Lost Souls into Light)
The Crow is a creature that has elicited much thought and speculation amongst all indigenous peoples and across many cultures and times. To some, Crow is a harbinger of "evil" or portender of physical death, to others, he is one who offers the choice to fly free of the chains of the past and to soar toward self knowing.
***One who has the honor of having Crow fly by his/her side, is an individual who has the Role of carrying souls lost in pain, denial, bitterness or ill intent, into the light of forgiveness and self-awareness.
When we are reeling in the darkness of emotional pain and turmoil, confused by denying that which we don`t want to see, or feeling bitter over the actions of those who have hurt us, betrayed us or rejected us in the "past," we have become lost on our Path. It is the Role of one who has Crow as their Power Totem, to then find those lost souls and call to them to make the journey into the light of awareness, and eventually, sincere forgiveness.
For one who does not have Crow as their Power Totem (yet has lost the sense of their Life Path), it is Crow that they would call upon to carry them to re-align with their Path once more, as she is the Totem whose vision sees through the darkest of Nights to find the way back home.

In esoteric astrology, the Crow would be considered to be much like Saturn, the Gatekeeper, who stands ever at the ready of the Doorway between Planes, keeping the Ancestors informed as to the progress and evolution of those who walk the Red Road. Yet Crow will also carry messages from the Ancestors to his/her fellow two-leggeds. This has earned the Crow Soul the responsibility of being the Watcher and the Sentinel, standing as a messenger between the realm of the physical, and the realm of the Spirit.

If Crow is not your personal Power Totem, yet has suddenly made an appearance in your life, then there are messages that the Ancestors are bringing to you that will likely be heralding significant changes in your life. The more crows that you encounter, the more likely the message is to be urgent and needing your acknowledgment and attention. Take the time to quietly go within, asking for clarification on the Message being delivered. Or it may be that you will be called upon to assist others in their journey from the darkness of denial into the light of awareness.

If Crow is your Power Totem and you are suddenly noticing him/her all about you, it is a time to go within, immersing yourself in quiet contemplation, listening to the messages you are to pay heed to for either your own Path, or as a message to relay to Others.***
