The BEST way is to keep your cotton pickers outta it! Why would ANYONE short of a total idiot overclock a 64 bit processor to gain another couple mghz? Its already way faster than any software would need! You want it to run well and appreciate you? Buy a chitload of fast ram!

OH MY GOD WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT IT IS HORRIBLE, WHY WHY WHY.

Well perhaps because it will, yes will give you a noticeable performance gain. Despite what the first three people said, overclocking can give you a decent performance gain. The only thing they said that was correct is that you have to know what you are doing, it really isn't for the inexperienced. I will be happy to help you, but I really need to know you are serious before I waste a lot of my time walking you through it, as I have found a lot of people on here do not take overclocking seriously and are not willing to do the work involved. If you are interested, send me an email.

All the AMD processors are unlocked and easy to overclock if you have access to your bios. The best thing you can do is have a look at the website below for the techie details of your processor. The section on your processor has a section on overclocking.
Have a look at the AMD web page which has downloads and upgrades for their processors and some forums which discuss overclocking speeds etc:

i must agree with the first answer, overclocking a good processor like the athlon 64 is unnessecary
apart from taking a chance of frying your processor, the amount of clock speed you will gain will be so small you wont notice a difference
you would be better saving up and upgrading your memory by 512mb or 1gb as this would increase your p.c,s performance much more than overclocking it by 200mhz or so
even a new graphic card would show a performance boost, and all these upgrades are alot safer than putting your processor at risk
good luck and happy xmas

WHY? not fast enough for you? i think you read about overclocking and thought you would give it a try !! NOT FOR THE INEXPERIANCED and totally unneccersary on the processor you have.

er where exactly did i say it wouldn't increase performance. all i said was it is totally unneccesary. that processor should FLY anyway. why not just go AM2 instead(probably try to overclock that too)
