As far as a jolly elf who lives at the North Pole and flies around each Christmas Eve, no . . . this is not true. HOWEVER, there truly WAS a St. Nicholas who was born into a wealthy family and when his community was without a priest, he was immediately elected to the post because of his kindness and generosity to those around him. Over his life, he gave away all he had for the benefit of others. He loved children and reached out to them on a regular basis to make sure they were not forgotten. Over the years, the legend of Santa Claus developed from the legacy of St. Nick.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with having Santa in the picture at Christmas - PROVIDING - you remember that Christmas is first and foremost the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Whether Jesus was actually born on Dec 25 or not is immaterial. The fact that He was born, and a day is set aside each year to recognize the fact is what matters. Saint Nick would be in full agreement.

Santa is definetly real. He may not be fat with the odd flying reindeer though. There are some people who go out their way to give children a good Christmas. I believe those are the real Santas.

I think that what Santa, St. Nick, stands for is very much real. People giving freely with a spirit of just trying to make people happy and put a smile on their face, especially people that don't have much. There are "Santa's" all around us!

I believe in the spirit of Santa. I feel that Santa visits everyone in one way or another. Whether its a present that you really wanted or someone helping a less fortunate person.

I think that the idea that a man comes to your house during the night and puts presents under your tree while dressed in big red robes with a sleigh led by a red nose reigndeer is not real. I don't think that there is one person who can represent Christmas. I believe that the spirit of the holiday is everyone being happy during the holidays!

No I don't. I don't think it's alright to tell your kids about him being real. taking pics w/ him at the mall or acting like it's just another part of the holiday is fine, but as a mom I think it's better that our kids just know the truth instead of telling them something made up that they will eventually find out is a lie.
