Hello =)
Well, strictly speaking, it needs an "oxidizer", of which the common ones are oxygen, Fluorine, and CO (Carbon Monoxide). Chlorine, at times, can also be an oxidizer, if the right substances are being burned.
On this planet, without any special chemicals, an open fire needs AIR, which contains oxygen, which is an oxidizer.
So, strictly speaking, fire does not need oxygen, but it does need an oxidizer. Since you are speaking of earth sciences, however, the answer they are looking for is probably yes, although it is misleading. More preferably, they should be looking for the answer "air"....
Namaste, and Happy Holidays,

Fire is the rapid oxidation of a fuel (combustion) with associated flame, heat, and light. The flame itself is a thin region of gas where intense chemical reactions are taking place. The reacting gas in this area is often hot enough to glow visibly, although some flames can be nearly invisible. Typical flames are just incandescent gas, and are not plasmas, as they are not hot enough to be sufficiently ionized.
Fires start when both a flammable and or acombustible material with an adequate supply of oxygen or another oxidizer is subjected to enough heat.

Yes. There are three things fire needs: Oxygen, a fuel source and an ignition source. Without any one of the three the fire will go out.
EDIT: Everyone beat me to the answer, again. Humph!

absolutely fire in a way is made up of oxygen so it wouldn't exist if there weren't any and neither would we now I'm not saying start a forest fire or anything like that but just try getting a tea light candle lighting it and putting something like a glass cup or similar completely over it anything like that without any holes (holes will allow oxygen in) in it and isn't plastic( plastic melts around fire) I'm assuring you the fire will go out. if you're underage i suggest having your parents to supervise you.

Yes, that is what allows it to burn. That is also why when a person is on fire, they are not supposed to run around, because that just makes the fire bigger by feeding it more oxygen.

Yes. If you deprive a fire of oxygen, it dies. Have you ever lit a candle and covered it with a glass cup and watched the flame slowly die as the oxygen is used up?

Fire is just like us (humans);
It neeeds fuel (food);
It needs air (oxygen)'
This produces heat (energy);
which gives it life.
Take away the Oxygen OR the Fuel and the fire (or us) will die

Yes, fire needs 3 elements to burn....oxygen, fuel, and heat. Take anyone of these away and the fire goes out.
