Whether you have a puppy, old dog, kitten, old cat, rabbit, fish, horse, guinea pigs, or hamsters.. whatever pet you've chosen as your companion.. if they're limping, having a hard time breathing, have a gross protruding lump from their skin, not eating/drinking, have diarrhea, a weird rash, smell funny, or doing things that are very unlike their personality.. PLEASE, for the love of God, do not get on Yahoo! Answers and ask people on the INTERNET how to fix your pets problem. CALL. A. FREAKING. VETERINARIAN. For christs sake, think if you were in their position.. would you take advice from a handful of idiots on a computer or trust the opinion of your doctor??? And even if there happens to be one soul on here that knows what they're talking about.. you're still going to get bombarded with answers from people who have no clue about animals that could lead you to confusion and improper treatment.

I'm really not trying to be offensive, but if you care about your pet.. call your vet.

They will never listen. Many of us have tried. They want to save a buck, save the time...whatever. They don't listen. Everyday there are more and more postings of sick pets. And have you noticed that now that Christmas has come, and all the new puppies and kittens are here, ther are TONS of people that don't even have a clue as to how to take care of them!!!

What should I feed my 4 week old puppy, and how often??

Whenshould I worm my puppy??

What vaccines do puppies get??

My puppy is limping??

Vomiting puppy???

Should I buy a puppy that is 5 weeks??

People are clueless and instead of finding good answers for themselves...they ask here.....and RARELY follow good advice!!!
If Hartz had a remedy for every condition at Wal-Mart...these people would be there ever day!!!

I have to agree with you on this one, and in all honesty, I've been meaning to post the same feelings as you have just done.

I have never seen so people gathered in one forum who post that they just got a pet but they have no clue as to how to look after it. HUH?????
Whatever happened to, "researching the care and needs of an animal before you bring it into your home"????

The questions I answer the most have to do with hamsters, rats, and mice. People post at Yahoo! Answers because, out of all the pets, these rodents are considered "throw away pets" more often then not, and nobody wants to take them to the vet for their ailments.

Most of the questions that come up here really are groaners. These are questions that the asker can research for themselves on the internet, the questions that lack common sense, or the emergencies that make you wonder why the animal is not already at the vet. These questions I would really like to sweep under the rug and forget. But some I will anwer.

The only questions I answer BTW are the ones that I can accurately answer and educate the asker, or the public. I will not answer if I don't have an education on the subject. Someone else better then I can do that. I'm not here because I have extra time on my hands. I'm here because I am an expert on the care and health of pet rats. I founded and own 4 pet rat, and 1 all-pet forums and I'm active on many other rat-only forums. I'm here because the public needs educating on small animals. I'm also expert on cat and dog care but I see so are many others, so, for the most part, I leave the cats and dogs to them. I'm here for the rodents.

What really irks me are the questioners and the answerers who ask and answer in the stupidest way possible. I've only been here since December 3 and I must have reported 10 people so far. These are the abusers and insulters that waste our time here. And I've given "thumbs down" ratings to at least a hundred or so people for their stupid answers, and a few to stupid questions. Oh, and like you mentioned, there are those people who answer but have no clue about the subject at hand.

Rant finished.

Thank you! I am so sick of people coming on here to ask advice for their animal problems, use a veteranary site, or CALL A VET. Most people get some pretty bad suggestions from this place, and if you have no idea how to solve the problem, how are you going to be able to sort the good suggestions from the bad? Some person told another person to leave his skiddish dwarf russian hamster on a balcony overnight! That is asking for problems! Please, if you do not know the answer to your problem, get help from a proffesional. Only come on here if you have questions pretaining to what type of pet you want, or what you should name it. Anything else can be dangerous for the animal.

FINALLY!!!! The question that I've wanted answered for a long time! It's pretty sad when people when people would rather get on the Internet than call their vet - and, what really gets me, is that half the time, you don't honestly know if they're being completely serious with a given situation, or they're being stupid and posting asinine questions about animal cruelty. But, alas...to be on the safe side, I can't help but answer their questions. Some people really don't know what to do with animals...and they'll ask for help from whoever they can get help from!

Mine does. We have a 15 year old dog. She gets meds every morning. She has cataracts, arthritice, and something else. She is about the only one who has heath problems, also when we take them out on walks, afterward we have to give her arnica a couple times. Because she just starts limping after. We have an 11 year old dog, too. She doesn't have meds, but she probably will have some soon.

THANK YOU! I'm astounded on the lack of common sense some people have on here. You have a pet, it's YOUR responsibility, take it to the vet when it's sick for gods sake. You have no idea who the person responding to you is. They could be a vet, or they could be someone giving out bad info for the fun of it.

Whew, that was bugging me for a while. lol

I agree, people who try to "cure" their pets with Yahoo Answers must have a screw loose. My vet almost always gives me totally different answers to questions I see answered on here. Bunch of morons!

Yeah that's right..if your pet have any problem consult your vet immediately. If you know the problem of your pet and you know the cure also then buy relevant medicine and do extra care.

I know what you mean. I like your point. Some people just need to use their common sense.
