a third of the worlds population claim to be christian and yet the world seems to be more politically divided and more violent than ever. Are there flaws in Jesus Christs teachings, or does the flaw exist in the way many people apply Christ's teachings?

Man is flawed.

Christ's teachings aren't flawed - teaching peace and teaching that you should love your fellow man is never wrong.

And that is the meaning of his birth and crucifixion.

The term "Christians" was first used in Antioch AD,50 to identify a people that did the things Jesus did.

Heal the sick or provide social services to the infirm was the paramount recordable activity of Christs ministry. The Believers in Antioch did these same works.

I would think as long as the works and ministry of Jesus is being carried out then there is no obvious failure.

A problem arises when people who lack the power to raise the dead call themselves Christian. Or are labeled Christian when in fact they are not.

NO, the flaw may exist in the way people apply Christ's teachings.People do not really read the Holy Bible, they select what parts of the Bible they want to read and that's
where the problem lies. People take the verses completely
out of context and that really messes things up. That is one reason that you have all of these cults around and that is when people really get themselves into trouble.

The bible wasn't written by God. It's open to interpretation and people are supposed to become BETTER people through their readings and understandings of the bible. Unfortunately, people look for what they want to see, not what's there. Hatred towards others, ignoring the poor, etc... Many Christians use their religion and holy book as an excuse to be a bad person, with a large ego. It's very sad.

Merry Christmas.

christ warned us in his word they would be false prophets, an false teachings.he said that not everyone that says lord lord shall enter the kingdom of heaven. there is a political an religous war that has been going on for many years an will continue, untill jesus comes back to take his born again children home.there is no flaws in gods teachings. but the trouble lies with people who have religion, but have not confessed ther sins to christ. and turned from their wicked ways. so dont let people confuse you. read ur bible and in gods word it will guide you the way he wants u to go. broad is the way to destruction, many there be that find it. narrow is the way, to eternal life, an few there be that find it. god bless you an guide you and ill pray for u by the time u get this message

well Christianity cannot fail, people do though,we are more politically divided because we are under attack, just like the atheist seem to think they are, theres nothing wrong in atheism if that is there belief, thats what this countries based upon, but other politicians are using the war,and other structures in play to futher there own agendas, the second part in your posting that people are flawed is correct and do not truly understand why Christ came to this world, even under the rule of Rome in his time this wasnt understood so really nothings really changed

I am not sure I would agree with you that one third of six and a half billion people on the planet claim to be christian, but aside from that, I think the only thing about any religion that fails is when the leaders of that particular religion mistakenly think that you can go on indefinitely dominating the minds of people, and forcefeeding them a belief system that they are in no position to qualify with hard, demonstrable proof.
There are certain religions in this world that do a pretty good job of that still, where Church and State are virtually the same entity and it is mandatory to indoctrinate children from the earliest age. Children grow up conditioned to believe a certain way and that belief becomes hardwired in place. But in countries like the United States, where we recognise the inalienable right of each and every individual to be the owner of his own mind, and the master of his own thinking and believing - and where true information is not strained through a seive at its source so that others make the decision what "the people" shall be allowed to hear and learn about - in that kind of societies, individuals ARE free to make their own determination as to what they will, or will not believe. You cannot keep the mind chained indefinitely, for one day, some day, it will break through the bars of its cage, and fly freely, and when it does, the cage that has held it has lost its power over it. Religions have thrived only because of their ability to chain the minds of people and hold them captive for that period of time. Now, with the introduction of the Internet, for the first time in human history people from around the world can reach one another and exchange thoughts and feelings and experiences and opinions. There's power in that, and when people's minds unite they can begin to break the bonds of one particular controlling influence that they may have grown up under.
I'm not saying that "Christianity" - (or any other religion for that matter) is bad in and of itself. I am saying that a belief system that is coerced is one that invalidates itself, and that eventually people wake up and begin to realise that they HAVE been held captive by coersion. People are waking up in great numbers these days, breaking the bars of those religion cages, and flying free. I think they may eventually return,, but on their own t erms, and not back to any cage. They will come back with their true freedom to form their own ideas about the validity of christianity, and god, and heaven and hell etc.etc. and they will no longer be satisfied to obey the directives of "the elders" who for so long have told THEM what "sin" is, and threatened them with the horrible punishments of the "angry god".
We do not know who or what "god" is, or who "Jesus" was. We have never had the slightest thing to go by but translations, and interpretations, and re-interpretations, and re-re-interpretations of some original hyeroglyphics of unknown sources, by different men over couple of thousand years, all of whom had their own very strong personal agendas. The rumblings of change are growing louder and a major metamorphosis in "belief" is beginning to take place. Like the metamorphological process in biology, the original entity breaks down entirely into a chaotic mass of formless substance. But it comes together again in time, and out of the chaos emerges a quite different, and more beautiful creature. The stuff of which the original entity was comprised has not been destroyed. It has just been reconstituted - renewed to meet the challenges and the requirements of a new phase in its life. I see what appears to be "disintegration into chaos" in regard to humanity's beliefs, as the start of just that metamorphosis. It may have begun several decades ago, and it may well continue for the rest of this century or beyond, but the new creature WILL emerge at the end of the process, and it WILL be more beautiful.

Organized religion in general (not only Christianity) has not only failed, it has brought about just about every war on this planet....Whoa... Time to re-think d'ya think?

it's not a fault in the teachings, the big thing is most people make excuses not to follow them. Those are your people like pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, who could probably give you a thousand excuses why they should not follow the teachings. Incidentally, they are the ones causing the divisions. People who tend to follow the teachings tend to be more inclusive.

Yes, Christianity has failed, simple because Christians have not stood up and let every one know what they feel and want , they have been been lazy and placid for so long and have given in to the gov and so many others such a the A,C,L,U, N.A.A.C.P, AND SO MANY OTHER CTIONS I think they have given up as our Christan leaders have sold them out the same as our politicians have sold out America,
