Nothing can be done for a broken toe.....it is impossible to splint or cast it. A doctor would just give something for pain.
THe only way to know for sure is to have an x-ray, which most dr's don't go to the trouble and expense of since there is no real treatment for it even if it is found to be broken.
But if it IS broken, it would be extremely painful, swollen for several days after the injury, and difficult to move.

The toe would be swollen and bruised. It would also be unable to bend easily and without pain. If you think you have a broken toe get it X-rayed. Treatment depends on the severity of the break. Usually just taping and splinting it is good enough but in some cases surgery is necessary. Broken toes left untreated can cause health problems like bunions and hammertoes.

The toe will probably be purple or black looking; it will probably be swelled and painful when you step on it, and it could be in a "dislocated" position. If you go to the ER, they will straighten your toe out if necessary, xray it, and then tape it to another toe for stability and give you something for pain. You can tape up your own toe and take some tylenol and get the same result. Godloveya.

if you broke your toe, it would be difficult to bend and flex without pain.
its not like a finger, where the bone is reset and put into a cast or split. if you go to the doctor, the toe will be taped to the toe next to it. thats about all that can be done. rest assured, they heal quickly.

Your foot will swell up! Getting an x-ray at a dr's office is a good idea. Usually, they don't do anything except wrap it pretty tight and tell you to stay off of it while it's swollen.
