I have a 1995 ram pkup & posted this ques. about my fuel pump stop&start on banging on gas tank with my hand. I have been told by a friend that there is a safety shutdown switch that acctiv. in an acc. and stops the pump.I did hit the hitch not hard, against a steel rail and shut my truck off, when I tried to restart 12 hours later the pump was not working then tap the tank and it starts. does anyone know of this switch? my 1987 ford had a safety shut down switch on the firewall for the fuel pump. thanx jray

The Ford had an "inertia switch" as you have said.
The Dodge does not have an comparable switch. It does have a rollover valve that prevents flow in case of an accident.
By banging on the tank, you just persuaded a faulty motor to run just a bit longer. You have a bad fuel pump. Time to drop the tank, and change it out.

The switch you are refuring is a sefty switch. On some trucks look in the pass side where you put your feet. inside the panes is a switch. put your finger and push down. THis should reset the switch

It's a bad fuel pump. $100 and a twelve pack of beer for the tank dropping job you and whoever you sucker into helping have to do.

the pumps for these dodge trucks are more than 100 my neightbor had to get one for his and the assembly for it was 400 bucks
so..
dodge trucks are bad for auto transmissions and fuel pumps, just like the gm trucks
