1 - One reason why the Louisiana Purchase was significant was that:
A – it showed that a democratic government could act quickly and decisively.
B – it tripled the size of the US and fulfilled the election promise of Jefferson. ( In my Text book it says Doubled not Tripled, Do they mean same thing?)
C – despite the financial hardship it caused, it strengthened the US bond prices for years to come.
D – it showed some important weaknesses in the Constitution which where quickly corrected.

2 – Some eastern Federalist were concerned about the Louisiana Purchase because:
A – they feared the uneducated masses in the West.
B – it was difficult to move to the West.
C – they were concerned about the economic power of the rural West.
D – there was little opportunity for the eastern poor in the West.

There is no choice for none of the above, so I will have to scribble my answers on the side of the page.

The mainsignificence of the LA purchacse was that it extened the United State "from sea to shining sea". As Lewis and Clark showed, by traveling through Louisiana you could get to the Pacific Ocean.

A strong federal government could not exist at that time over the huge area that the Louisiana Purchase gave to the United States.

You have to remember the communication problems they had then. With the lack of commnication, states had to take more power and make more decisions for themselves.

I also think B & B are your answers... and you are correct, it only doubled the size of the US at that time... Lewis and Clark were hired to map it out for the Govt at that time... 1803.
