I am a bit confused. Govt, Council, large co have to take minorities because of legislations. But when we find jobs overseas, they say that they only recruit local people. We are always talking about white people discrimianting others, but who protects us? We are discrimined as well.

There are many countries that white people do not enjoy priviledge. We need working visa, find employers ourselves, paying higher rent, charge higher other fees if we are right. What priviledge I have? Come On, Tell me!!!!!!!!

You may disagree with me, but i am confident i have sussed this out.

Racism is an oppression (lots of people think it can be towards any group based on their race...this is a misnomer)

Our understanding of racism is steeped in our history as a capitalist civilisation (which many argue was built the brutal racism of Apartheid and Slavery)

It is useful for the purposes of Power, that those affected by any oppression, are given an outlet amongst their own, to try and discharge the painful experience of segregation people feel due to the colour of their skin or a difference in culture (which illicts fear in the racist)

To say that white people can 'suffer' racism is actually quite an oppressive malediction. Would you say that men suffer the brutality of sexism? Would you say that straight men experience the lethal sting of homophobia as gay men and women so often do?? If the answer is no...read on, if the answer is yes, i'd usually be interested to entertain your madness, but as its xmas i prefer to suggest you stop reading as its unlikely anything i say will be of use to you.

Racism, is, has and will always be about the economic and social suppression of people of colour (the PC term in the states for BlackMinorityEthnic groups) across the globe. Okay thats pretty acurate if you think about how the west basically got rich off the African and Asian resources (including human beings as commodities which fuelled the Industrial Revolution) back in the 15/16/17/18/19/20/21st century....it Is predominantly Black people, or POC or BME whichever you prefer who are DYING because of racism...NOT white people...it is predominatly these groups who die because of preventable diseases....who are starving daily and dehydrated just as regularly....show me the country where White people fare worse than their ethnic counterparts...and show me a country that wasn't built and founded on the labour of immigrants....then prove to me that you somehow, as a white, priviledged person, who DOES NOT suffer the brunt or even have a lived experience of RAcism (as i and millions of other rational thinkers conceive of it...as an oppression, with an oppressed group-the victim and the oppressor-the perpetrator!) that you know what it feels like to made to feel so unwelcome and so worthless!

Discrimined isn't a word, and yes we are all subject to our own personal set of struggles, related to our status in one way or another, but white people are not discriminated against because of their racial background. You asked what racisim was, i hope i have cleared up some frequent idiocies in understanding this horrible force!

Racism is when anybody discriminates against someone because of their race. There is no disclaimer in this that it is only white against black. Nor is it down to just one colour against another. Racism is about being a different race not just a different colour.

I have known families who have discriminated against one of their own children because that child is a darker black than the rest of the family. White people who have discrinimated against family members who are also darker. I have known people to discriminate against gypsies and Jews. Black people against white. Mixed races are often discriminated by both sides.

Welsh, Irish, Scots and English against each other.

Racism is not a black and white issue, it is much more complicated than any PC handbook will ever admit.

What it boils down to, is that we are all human and unfortunately we tend to distrust those who look/speak/attire themselves differently. Sad isn't it!

A reaction to natural xenophobia - the fear of the different. Our inherent fear of anything other than out own kind can cause an aggressive response towards the offending party - usually accompanied by the need to rally support from those we perceive as like ourselves.

It reaction dates back to the time we lived in caves and protected territory.

Racism is prejudice and stereotypes. It is also defined as the belief of the superiority of one race over another. This belief is often accompanied by self serving bias.

racism is when one group of people get preferential treatment by the government and the society over other race(s). It is a stain on our soul that need to be eradicated at any cost.

racism is supposed to be when someone hate another solely on race. Today we place the race card eveytime someone doesn't get their way. People need to take responsibility for themselves and their actions and not blame it on race.
