i had an email today which at first appeared to be from service@paypal telling me that they think i have had a non authorised payment but they have put a hold on it until i can check it is ok, it asked me to click on the link to take me straight to paypal and when i did my antivirus stopped loads of virus from doing any harm, however it has not been able to remove the virus just quarantine it. i tried to report it to paypal but they want the original email but i deleted it when i realised what it was. is there any way to get back deleted emails or are they gone for good

your anti virus software should have scanned your incoming email for any virus's before you opened your email.
so it's now in quarantine, thats good, next thing you want to do is to get your anti virus software to remove it and delete it from your computer,
1. Disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP).
2. Update the virus definitions.
3. Run a full system scan.
4. Delete any values added to the registry.

Do not wrry on the deleted E mail. be careful in future. Read therules of Paypal clearly and follow them strictly. I can give you a link that deals with Payapl & Ebay transactions through Paypal. PayPal is one of the most popular online money transfer systems widely used for online auctions, pay to surf programs, e-books and purchase of low value goods. You should be aware that PayPal never sends out e-mails like the one you received. It is a classic phishing scam. Here are a link to a couple of examples of this type of e-mail

Contact your e-mail service provider if you permanently deleted it from your recycle bin. They should have a copy lying on their servers if you are lucky. But it is not that important if you can't find the e-mail, just be more careful in the future and report any strange looking PayPal e-mails to PayPal in the future.

You've given away your Paypal password, so you need to call Paypal and find out how you can change it without the crooks knowing what you change it to. They have probably loaded your machine with all kinds of stuff to get your other information, too. I'd even go so far as to take it to a repair shop for a complete clearing and re-install.

Here's what you can do. make sure you have not emptied anything in your recycle bin. Next, check the recycle bin. If anything, it should still be there. Would you still be able to rememberwhat file it is? If you can, don't click on the icon. Send your email to paypal using an attachment and have them take care of it from there. Good enough, yes?

Deleted mails are in the trash can for some time before deletion. You can check there.

You should also use a different antivirus to delete the virus in your system. Boot into safe mode and then scan.
