If the coat hanger wont work then I guess your only option is to TAKE THE HANDLE OFF. I dont remember how old I was to figure this out.... I think I was pretty old tho... like 7 or 8 lol
I was at least 9 before I realized the actual door comes off too.
sorry about the sarcasm lol I just get so bewildered sometimes. LOL

I've limited experience, but this is what I've found and done:
The little hole(s) we have on many interior door knobs, (that allow locking on the other side) are round. I take something small and round (currently I have a plastic tube that use to hold ball point ink in a pen). Line that up, sliding it into the hole till you feel a springy resistance; push slightly against that springiness; it only moves slightly, maybe 1/4 inch, THEN with the springiness depressed, TURN THE KNOB.

This is actually easy to do. The little hole is for this situation. You need something small and stiff, like a small screwdriver to insert into the hole.
If it's a round hole, you should just need to push straight in until the lock unlocks. A small diameter Phillips head screw driver or a stiff wire (like a straightened out coat hanger end) will work best here.
If it's a skinny rectangular hole, insert a regular screw driver (not a Phillips head) into the hole and gently turn (probably clockwise) until the lock unlocks.

Pretty much anything long and skinny that fits in the hole will open the door. You just have to sort of push the skinny thing in the hole a few times until you hit the right spot . . . hehehe

The hole is used to align a laser guided anti-tank missle. The operator lines up the laser to the hole and fires the missle.
This opens up the door and everything around it. Including windows, other doors, walls, and the roof.
Emergency locksmiths can then get in real easy. Isn't technology wonderful???

Straighten out a coat hanger (wire) and stick it in the little hole and punch the lock back out. You'll have to maybe wiggle the wire around a little bit.

You're gonna kick yourself with how easy this is. (-;
Go get a small flat-blade screwdriver. Put into hole and turn. Some need to push and turn. I keep a roast skewer on hand for just such an occasion.

Take a bobin pin, stick it in the hole and turn it like a key. But the pin has to be the correct spot for it to be turned.
