go to the auto parts store and buy a testor(((it looks like an ice pick on one end and a ground wire on other end))) use this to test wires under dash and in the rear ((under car or in trunk)) ---turn lights to park mode and start check--get some masking tape to place on checked wires----look for wire that may be shorted or for a fuse that is safety to the tail lites ..........you don't say what brand of auto ..if it's a P/Up run some new wire ((best to use 14/16 gauge THHN)) and you should be able to find the problem... M-Xmas..

First, check the bulb. If ok, check the wiring harness and the rest of the wiring. If ok, by-pass the switch and see if it comes on. If it does, it's the switch. If it doesn't, then the dc-ground is off somehow. Depends on if turn-signal, brake peddle and make of car.

It could be the switch, or an open somewhere in the electrical system.
