David Hicks was born in Adelaide, South Australia along with sister Chelsea Hicks. Described by his father Terry Hicks as "adventurous", he spent time working on rural properties in the Northern Territory, Queensland and South Australia. In 1999, Hicks travelled to Albania (leaving behind a failed relationship and two children), where he joined the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), a paramilitary organisation of ethnic Albanian Muslims fighting against Serbian forces in the Kosovo War, and served with them for two months. [2] But the conflict in Kosovo was almost over by the time he arrived and he claimed he saw no fighting. After his return to Australia, Hicks converted to Islam and began to study Arabic.
By December 2001 Hicks had been captured by a "Northern Allliance warlord" and sold to US Special Forces for $1000.[3]

With Hicks being trained by Al Queda while funded by the USA, the American government sponsored the training of David Hicks.
The simple fact is that Hicks never fired a shot against the west instead, tried to fight along with NATO forces for the Serbian action.
The photo the government and media loves to show is cropped to hide that the rocket launcher is taken with his mates while on holiday nowhere any training or war area's. The rocket launcher wasn't even loaded.
While American's don't know or care about Hicks, neither does Howard and his stupid voters who follow every lie uttered from the mouth of this pathetic excuse of a human being.
John Howard will sell out any Australia for his own political advantage.

OK, don't just ask half the question. Your very own link says:
"David Matthew Hicks (born 7 August 1975), also known as Abu Muslim al-Austraili and Mohammed Dawood, is an Australian citizen being held prisoner by the United States Government at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba after having served with the Taliban and al-Qaeda in Afghanistan."
Hello, Taliban....so with that in mind, yes, they probably have a right to have this guy on lockdown.

the bottom became there previously Cuba grew to develop into into an anti American communist state. Accordingto the regulation, we've each and every correct to have a base there. the present Cuban authorities says the bottom is in violation of the 1969 Vienna convention on the regulation of Treaties, yet Article 4 of the Vienna convention on the regulations of Treaties states that the Vienna convention regulations do not note to treaties made previously it. The treaty between the U. S. and Cuba for the bottom became made previously 1969. I do believe that there have been some human rights violations on the penitentiary and they should be investigated through our own authorities because that's the right problem to do, yet I’m not hostile to the bottom being there because I do believe it has the right in accordance to the treaty. ** depending on Helen P, the U. S. has no interest in annexing Cuba. also, the Cuban authorities does not care about all voters in that united states of america. I doubt Helen has ever been to Cuba, because I actually have, and it’s actual no utopia. My father is Cuban American and got here to the U. S. in 1978, he escaped the Castro dictatorship, there's no way he would have had a more desirable existence there than he has right here. i does not have 1/2 the freedoms I actually have right here interior the country if my dad did not come right here. Helen you do not recognize what it’s opt for to stay in Cuba. I’m sorry for the rant, yet those who don’t recognize what they’re talking about piss me off.

You link to a page that says in the first paragraph:
David Matthew Hicks (born 7 August 1975), also known as Abu Muslim al-Austraili and Mohammed Dawood, is an Australian citizen being held prisoner by the United States Government at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba after having served with the Taliban and al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.
He served with the Taliban and al-Qaeda, I don't agree with Guantanamo but I do agree about the reasons he's there. Just because his native nation is an ally to the US doesn't mean he is.

Before I clicked on your question, I hoped you'd provide a link because I knew nothing about this. I pulled it up & read enough to have an opinion. (This is a CREDIBLE link, not one of those biased blogs...) I certainly care; I think it's an atrocity. For some reason, many people think "Americans" don't ever do nasty things, just other countries. Wherever people exist, there will be abuse. As for Iraq, I wonder if any logical minded person EVER truly expected we'd accomplish anything there. YES. I care. What can we do???
Thank you so much for the second link. We need to everything we can when we see an injustice being done. Many little brains are paranoid by the "fear" tactics that originated justification for our attack on Iraq, & throw everyone into the same barrel.

Australia and the United States have been tremendous allies for a century or longer. That there is some Austrailian who wanted to dabble in counter culture violence and got picked up in the collection basket is not a problem between Australia and the US or Aussies and Yanks. Its his problem and attempt to characterize it as an international incident between these two friendly countries is just empty headed rhetoric meant to distract from the data that indicates the jerk was supporting or participating in terrorism. I note that you do not address the issues of his arrest and jailing you just spout out that stupid emptry chant that all leftists use....no substance, not stance just chants.

Whether Aussie, American, English, Greek, or Saudi, if they were in Afghanistan as a member of the Taliban/AlQuida terrorist group, they belong at Guantanamo. Disillusioned, deluded, and brainwashed people from all nations joined Al Quida and fought to maintain the Taliban Government to protect the terrorist training camps in Afghanistan. Any and all that weren't killed in action should be locked up.

Yeah most of us care and the smart ones are sure that if we don't do something soon those criminal elements in DC are going to try to lock us up also you Aussies had better get wise quick as your government is ahead of ours they took away your means to defend yourselves already and will soon be taking even more of your rights isn't it ironic that the free countries that fought so hard for so long are becoming dictatorships and the dictatorships are becoming free societies ? The government should prove their claims in open court or let them go to hold someone you have no evidence on for a crime they may not have committed is in itself a crime but Bush is getting away with it because he has scared the moron brigade !

FIRST OF ALL ONLY AMERICANS ENJOY CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS
when our constitution it plainly stated that constitutional righs only extended to U,S, citizens period, The U,S, supreme court upheld this rule in the ninties against some drug dealers from one of the Islands
but, even if otherwise, I don't gaiv a damn what happens to this duck, he was a taliban operative, no one knows for sure if he killed any Americans or not, the mere fact that he was caught with them is enough for me I don't need to see any bodys,as far as I am concerned the only right he has is wheather or not to be hung today or tomorrow,
