Having some meat on your bones, for both men and women, was a good thing because that meant that your were healthy and eating well. It also meant that the women would probably be able to carry children to term and have healthy ones, not sickly ones. Thus allowing the royal family or family in power to continue to be so. My, how things have changed huh?!

They actually weren't BBW that is just another historical misnomer that has come through time because to be seen as one of the rich and/or powerful in the past that was what you were expected to be. For example historian point out the Martha Washington was not a BBW for most of your life but was portrayed as such in paintings because painters believed that was the way women of wealth and power should be portrayed. We would say the same things are done today when photographers touch up pictures of models to make their subject more appealing to their viewers based on todays social norms of beaty.

Remember many peope found Cindy Crawford mole at one time very unattractive and argued she would never make it.

Good Luck!!!
