First, let me preface my answer by saying that you will most likely never, ever be famous by being a poet. You will also probably not make much money. Most people do not read poetry. Few could name many contemporary poets.

I will, however, give you advice on how to get your poetry published if that is what you want to pursue.

You will have to work on your grammar and spelling. Agents, magazines, and publishing houses will never take you seriously if your cover letters are not well written.

Go to your local bookstore or library and check out the book Writer's Market (they do a new, revised edition every year). This is a collection of places that you can submit your writing to, so you can find ones specific to your type of poetry. They also have an absolutely wonderful website that has a searchable database.

You have two choices-- you can try and submit individual poems to journals or magazines, or submit a book-length collection. If you intend to publish a book, I would recommend approaching agents first (however, they will take you more seriously if you have individual publishing credits under your belt).

It is very difficult to get your work placed. You will need to do a lot of research to find the places that are best suited to the type of poetry you write. Every journal or magazine has it's own feel, so take a look at an issue first to see if your poem would fit with it.

Be persistant. You will get a LOT of rejection but if you want to be published you must push forward.

Keep writing every day. Work at it. Try new forms and structures. Edit the things that you have written until they shine.

Good luck!

Fame is not based on talent. Fame is a result of luck, timing and determination. THere have been many tremendously talented writers and artists who have never gotten their breaks. The best you can do it keep putting yourself out there because without that you will never get noticed to have that timing and luck. Go to poetry readings, send your poems to publishers, do everything you can think of to get your poetry heard and read. Its not a guarantee for fame, but its the only step you have control over.
