Male bettas do not do well with other bettas. Most female bettas live peacefully with other female bettas (although some can be agressive, in which case they would need to be separated).

As for community tanks with other species, males and females are generally okay. The things you need to keep in mind before attempting this is compatibility. The other fish also need to be TROPICAL fish that thrive in warm water, and it's a good idea that the fish you choose have short fins (a male betta might confuse a long-finned guppy with another betta) and are docile, as agressive fish like barbs tend to be nippy and will bite your bettas tail.

Another thing to consider is the size of your tank and the space requirements of each fish you add. Bettas need at least 2 gallons to themselves (I can explain the 'puddles in rice paddies' misconception if you would like), not to mention the needs of any other fish you might add.

So when picking out tank mates for your betta, remember: short-finned, tropical, docile, and the space needs of each fish.

Good luck and happy tank-keeping!

A single male Betta can live peacefully in a community tank as long as the tank is not over crowded. They are usually only aggressive to other Bettas. Several female Bettas can live together in a tank (I have 2 females in a 6g. tank). Any community tank fish will do well with a Betta, just do not over crowd (IE. 10g tank...only put 4-6 fish. The "rule of thumb" that says 1 fish per gal. is not correct...if I remember correctly, it is 1 gal per 1in of fish...a 3in fish needs 3 gal. of water.

Hope this helps!

magnificent!!! Betta do remarkable in community tanks, very almost each and every freshwater tank i have ever had has had a betta in it. i'd bypass with some brilliant and eye-catching Swordtails and platies (a million male 2 women or each and each and every form) and three cory cats (corydoras) those style of fish are hardy and are available in all kinds of hues. The platies and swords are livebearers which propose they breed typically and performance stay little ones, so in case you do not opt for any little ones basically get 2-3 women of each and every, you would possibly want to get all men yet they maximum in all probability would strive against it basically relies upon though (resembling human beings all of them have their own personalities). I received't get anymore fish than those. i'm asuming you've a superb filter out, you should continuously attempt to get one that's one length up from the dimensions tank its made for. So once you've 10 gallon length filter out get a 20 gallon length filter out as a change, also over the aspect filters are the perfect, undergravel filters are kinda crappy i does not propose those. also choose decholrinator pressure coat is remarkable also you'll opt to get a water attempting out kit sometime it would want to help you you retain music of your ammonia stages aswell as nitrite and ph. i might want to bypass on and on. desire this helps!!!

I'm still learning about Bettas, but I can tell you this of what I've known so far. Males can never be kept together or they're going to fight until one dies so the other one can be left alone. What you can do is buy a divider for your 2 Bettas so it divides the tank into two. But for females, it's still better that you seperate them too unless if you have a whole bunch of females. If you want to know more about this, email me, I'll be glad to help you.

Yes they do well in larger, heated tanks. I really hate to have to keep saying this, but BETTA'S DO NOT KILL OTHER FISH. They are called "Fighting Fish" because male bettas will fight other male bettas over territory. They are not an aggressive fish in general. Contrary to popular beliefs, betta's do not do well in small bowls or cups.

They really require at least 5 gallons to be healthy. They will do well with any peaceful fish, keeping in mind that betta's are slow and their long fins are often targets.

So stick with non fin nippers like neons, lemon tetra's, zebra danios, white clouds, cory cats. etc.

Ger i hate all these people that say bettas will kill other fish. Well i dont hate them i just wish they would get it right.

Bettas will get along fine with other types of fish and female bettas can normaly be kept together. It is usually only the males that fight each other. One male betta will do fine in a community tank.

If their females they should be fine too.

Just dont add two male bettas.
or a male and female...
Merry Christmas!

You should never do that. You leave them alone for a minute and you come back with the other fish's fins teared off! That's what happened to my fish. Also you should NEVER put two male bettas together-they'll kill each other!

by my experience bettas wont fight with other species like sworfish and mollies. but you cant keep two bettas together especially if they are males. i have even noticed that some breeds even harass male bettas' long tails.

Betta's do NOT do well in a large tank with other fish because it will kill all of them. Trust me, I tried.

how big is your tank? if u have a 10-30 gallon tank with 2 males, your doomed. if its 40-60, your chances r higher but i wouldnt suggest it. if it 100+, JUST PROVIDE HIDING PLACES. if their females, it depends. if your female is friendly, its ok. if not, get a divider. if u have a male and a female, get a 60-100gallon tank with hiding places. if u have 10 gallons...it will be like wrestlemania...just under water...
