Again, I take issue with Dr. C's response to this question. Masturbation has been medically proven to have no noticeable effect on sexual pleasure. Given, it is difficult to measure "pleasure" in any sense, the idea that "rough skin" on your hand might decrease sensitivity is ludicrous. Considering the glans and inner foreskin are the areas of your penis which respond most to stimulation, a circumcised male would have already desensitized these areas through everyday wearing of underwear and clothing. An uncircumcised male would not directly be touching those areas, and those areas would be desensitized through every day washing and cleaning (you are supposed to actually use your hand + soap to wash the inside of a foreskin, not just rinsing it with water).

I agree with his assesment of the spiritual aspect; it is a very complex thing which only you can decide for yourself.

Medically, I take issue with him.

Yes; there are BOTH - spiritual and physical repercussions for both sexes.
The physical loss for both sexes is a gradually decreasing sensitivity, because the real contact, for both male and female sexually-sensitive areas, is made to be softer and more delicate than what we employ when we masturbate.
The hard skin of guys' hands or other inanimate objects are not akin to the soft, smooth epithelial tissue of the female vagina at all.
The result often is that after some time of engaging masturbatory methods, a proper engagement of the female vagina is often not stimulating enough to bring the intended excitement designed.
Thus, one can be tempted to engage more and more techniques and ideas for stimulating the penis sufficiently to elicit a maximal pleasureable response from it.
So, the first "side effect" is a lessening of sensitivity for maximum natural pleasure.
This acts similarly re female masturbation.

Spiritually, the explanation is more complex.

But basically, the intimacy of personal connection between two people who find their maximal stimulation and intimate pleasure from 'outside' the immediate connection of the two involved lessen the bond that pure sex with only each other sets up.

Does that answer your question?
