What does it mean to be a leader in an interconnected, rapidly globalizing world?

It means that you have extended the reach of your company outside national boundaries. You have grown so big and powerful business wise that you are the acknowledged leader in your industry. Take GMC. It sells cars the world over and has factories and dealerships worldwide. It is for the moment the recognized leader in car manufacturing in the world, with Toyota a close second and closing in.fast. It is globalized in such a way that parts made in Mexico, Australia and England and Canada constitute the makeup of the car that you buy in America, inversely, cars made in America show up in car dealerships from Europe to Africa to China and all over the world. The reason Toyota is growing rapidly surpassing the two other members of the big three (Ford and Chrysler) is because they have gone global also. Instead of shipping cars made and assembled entirely in Japan, they have learned to built factories and assembly lines in countries where the demand for their products is high. Also, the economies of efficiency dictates that you set up shop in areas where cost is low and profit is high. That is why when your American computer breaks down, you call tech support in India to help you figure out why your computer crashed, or why when you have questions about your credit card billing the other person on the line has a Hispanic accent..This in a nutshell is what is meant by globalization, and what constitutes leadership thereof.

If you are a leader today, hopefully you are accepting of all cultures and races and religions. Hopefully you will take into consideration the way your/our actions effect other nations. Hopefully you will reach out to other leaders and negotiate, teach and learn from each other. Hopefully, you will try to help every nation in need and be willing to take help and advice in times of trouble. Hopefully you will see a dramatic improvement in the world leadership relations and find goals that all of the leaders can strive for together. We are becoming so interconnected now that it often feels like one large country with many different governors. Some governors don't care about the other states. Hopefully they will be replaced by those who do.
